Abbey Road

Sunday afternoon proved to be a huge success! Dana Kaplan and Jonathan Tardo, who are getting married on May 15 of this year, came to the studio to have their pre-wedding shoot and brought along their wonderful little dog, Abbey Road. Dana's mom, Cheryl, came to baby-sit, but truthfully, was not needed to do that. I have photographed many dogs in my day, and I have to say this was the best behaved, most enchanting canine that has ever sat in front of my camera.
Abbey Road was curled up at Dana and Jon's feet properly smiling and being most attentive for every shot. She reveled in the strobes, never blinking, enjoying her moment in the sun.
I really thought I heard her say, "I'm ready for my closeup, Mr. DeMille" and one point. Her paws were delicately placed to reveal the perfect combination of black and white, her eyes were alert and her mouth was smiling. Towards the end of our session, I said to Dana, why don't you look up at Jon, and there was Abbey turning her head to look at Jon, in time with Dana. Dog portraits: they are the best!

mid winter slow down

Throughout the months of January, February and March the cycle of my life seems to slow down. The focus changes from weddings to personal work. This year, that has meant following up with Roseann and Dale and meeting Kristine and Ransom Rose. The images we made about a month ago have been enlarged and framed and I know she will be extremely excited to have them grace her lovely home. I hear that Kristine owns a lot of thoroughbred horses and I am dyin' to meet them!
When the snow flies (and it seems to have done so only twice) I cannot sit still in the house, but must drive out to the end of the Pier or through Tallman State Park and capture the beauty.
Anyone who knows me realizes that I am a morning person. There have been many days when I can be found in the middle of Hester Street with my camera, usually in my pajamas as I am thrilled at the colors of the dawn (see photo album on my new Facebook Page, lisa forman photography, inc) There are never two morning skies that look alike. The colors change from minute to minute, a sky can be a completely different color in two minutes. It's like shooting a wedding- always on your toes, alert for every nuance, every emotion, every minute.
I hope you enjoy the images on Facebook, and these of Kristine and Ransom Rose.

dressage

I was so excited to be invited to Roseanne Lipari's home out on Long Island to photograph her and her friend, Dale, riding "Fig" Dale's beautiful Dutch warmblood horse.
Roseanne was married six years ago on St. Maarten, and I was the lucky woman chosen to photograph this beautiful event. She recently connected with on Facebook! and I found out she is a dressage rider and my ears perked up. I have been photographing thoroughbred horses for a while now, thrilled, overwhelmed, and inspired by their power, grace and beauty. I would love to put a book together with my photographs and I am looking for a publisher right now.
I have not been privileged to view Dressage prior to Tuesday, it was so lovely. I shot over 300 images in less than three hours, and edited the group down to 85- you can see some on the link above.
I am looking forward to our trip to Vermont tomorrow to visit a trainer, and check out a new horse for Roseanne. I hope I will be able to make some photographs.
This is a gift from the universe.
Thanks!
